| Alumina & Clays | |
| Whitfield & Son Limited supply
a variety of minerals for industrial applications. These include a complete
range of Alumina, Clays, Zirconia Powder and Standardised Minerals to suit
applications in both ceramic and non-ceramic sectors. |
|
| Alumina | |
| Whitfield
& Son Limited's range includes Alumina Hydrate and Calcined Alumina. Alumina Hydrate is renowned
for extreme whiteness and consequently is used extensively as a filler in
plastic, rubber, paint and synthetic marble. The range of Calcined
Alumina covers the whole spectrum from ceramic grade alumina with a standard
soda content to ultra-high purity grades suitable for the production of translucent
alumina ceramics, prosthetics for human implant and production of ß Al2O3electrolytes for the new generation of batteries. |
|
| Clays | |
| Ball Clays & China Clays are mined and refined to give properties suitable for the manufacture of all ceramic products. China Clays with very fine particle size and high brightness are used as fillers and extenders in the paint, rubber, plastic and paper industries. The properties of Ball Clay can be modified by fine grinding, refining and chemical treatment to provide products for many industries such as paint, rubber, plastic, fertiliser and animal feed. |

| Sintalite® | |
| Sintalite is produced by calcining kaolin at high temperature (1550°C) and is an excellent low iron material for many refractory purposes including shell moulds in casting, kiln furniture and cements. A wide range of sizes is available. |
|
| Zirconia Powder | |
| Whitfield & Son Limited offer yttria stabilised Zirconia Powder produced
by Tosoh using a hydrolysis process which ensures a uniform dispersion of
yttria. Our Zirconia powder is known for consistent high quality, used in
producing materials with properties superior to those of conventionally produced
PSZ. In addition to the partially stabilised material we also offer non and
fully stabilised zirconia grades. |
|
| Standardised Materials | |
| The range of standardised minerals has been produced to tightly controlled
chemical and physical specifications and is widely used in the manufacture
of ceramic colours, glazes and stains. The consistency of the minerals ensures long-term stability of the end product. The range includes petalite, colemanite, wollastonite, bentonite, manganese dioxide, chromite and iron oxide. |
